Irina Ilyina

The head of the Institute of Regional Studies and Urban Planning of the Higher School of Economics, Doctor of Economic Sciences

Irina Nikolayevna Ilyina, Doctor of Economic Sciences, is the head of the Institute of Regional Studies and Urban Planning of the Higher School of Economics.

In 1982, she graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University where she specialized in economic geography. In 2003, she defended her candidate thesis on economics entitled “Economic Regulation of Environmentally Healthy City-Planning. The Case of Moscow”.

In 2006, Irina Ilyina won the Moscow Government Environmental Award. She is also a three-times winner of the Aleksey Gutnov City-Planning Award, an Honorary Environmental Officer of Moscow and a corresponding member of the International Academy of Architecture.

Irina Ilyina is also a member of the expert panel on city-planning of the State Duma Committee on Land and Construction.

In 2011, she started teaching at the Higher School of Economics and in 2017, was acclaimed the best lecturer of the year.

Irina Ilyina was awarded the second-class medal of the Order of the Badge of Honor.
