Within the framework of the conference, on May 25, 2026, from 14:00 to 16:00, in Moscow, at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation (51/1 Leningradsky Prospekt, Auditorium 0329), a session titled “Social Urbanism – An Integrative Profession for the Cities of the Future” will be held.

About the session:

Large-scale projects to update the urban environment of megacities, create successful agglomerations, and revitalize historic cities require specialists of a new level. New relevant issues arise: managing agglomeration development, rebooting the economy of city districts, forming new patterns in suburban areas of megacities, and interactions between indigenous populations and “new city residents.” These challenges demand urban development specialists to have a broader perspective on activating the economic and social potential of urbanized territories.

Today, sociologists are expected not only to provide information about urban residents’ problems but also to forecast changes in people’s needs under the influence of new technologies, social design methods, and technologies for the qualitative development of urban districts’ economies. The focus of the section is on interdisciplinary education and the practical orientation of graduates in the context of a rapidly growing urban planning industry.
