
Glazychev Urban Studies Conference 2022. Comprehensive Development of Territories: Practical Challenges and Tools for Modernization
The traditional Glazychev Urban Studies Conference held in memoriam of Vyacheslav Glazychev (1940-2012), a renowned Russian scientist, civic leader and urbanist, will take place on June 5 and 6, 2022. For the first time in the history of the event, it will be held outside the capital, in a city of Lipetsk, and will also be available for online streaming. The conference is co-organized by the Glazychev Department for Development of Territories of the Institute for Social Sciences of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration and DOM.RF Private Joint Stock Company, with the support of the Lipetsk City Administration and Project Group 8.
The key topic for discussion will be comprehensive development of territories, its practical challenges and tools for modernization. Elena Zelentsova, Head of the Glazychev Department for Development of Territories and Academic Director of the Center for Creative Industries of the Institute for Social Sciences of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, comments on the choice of topic:
“The Glazychev Conference is an important professional event, held for the eight consecutive time in memory of the renowned scholar and urbanist Vyacheslav Leonidovich Glazychev. In his work, he always paid great attention to the development of Russian regions. That is why, in this year 2022 that that marks the tenth anniversary of his death, we decided to hold the event outside Moscow, which will be a visible recommitment to his values and concepts. The staff members of the department that has his name on it have been working closely together with the city administration of Lipetsk and with the professionals of DOM.RF to arrange a large-scale scientific discussion focused on comprehensive development of territories and on local initiatives in that area that could serve as a model for other regions of Russia.”
The attendees will discuss issues of the comprehensive development of territories, urban sociology, creative economy, creative industries and social aspects of new urban projects in architecture, marketing and design. Here are some of the hottest topics:
- Social aspects of the comprehensive development of territories;
- Comprehensive development as a means to design creative economy;
- Expert crush test of the first master plan of central Lipetsk developed by the DOM.RU Consortium Foundation, Project Group 8 and the Guild of Landscape Engineers.
There will also be presentations of several territorial development projects prepared by the students of the Glazychev Department. The conference will be instrumental in identifying the most relevant trends in the comprehensive development of territories as well as in creating a common space for discussing experiences from the various regions of the Russian Federation. The Glazychev Department is also planning to publish a collective monograph to be included in the Russian Research Citation Index. The articles are accepted until July 15, 2022 and will be reviewed and selected by the editorial commission.

The conference will be held both offline and online.
On June 5, the attendees will be invited get familiar with the flagship territorial development projects of Lipetsk (offline in several venues according to the program).
On June 6, expert discussions will be held offline in the conference hall of the Mercure Hotel in Lipetsk (3 Teatralnaya Square), also available for online streaming on the Institute for Social Sciences’ YouTube cannel and on the VKontakte public of the Glazychev Department.
